Lincoln -- Nebraska senior Cassi Morelock finished eighth in the javelin Monday evening at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento, Calif., with a mark of 168-7. Lynda Blutreich (Nike) (191-2), Kim Kreiner (Unattached) (187-2) and Emily Carlsten (Florida) (186-11) finished at the top of the list at Hornet Stadium and will likely represent the U.S. in the Olympic Games this September in Sydney, Australia. Morelock's season-best mark of 181-0 came on April 21, at the USTCA Team Championships.
Also representing the Huskers in the javelin at the trials was senior Cory Lehman, who finished seventh in his flight and 16th overall with a toss of 223-4. Former Husker Scott Warren finished just ahead of Lehman (14th) with a mark of 224-4. Only the top 12 athletes qualified for the finals.
Other Huskers still to compete at the trials include: Leann Boerema in the shot put and Dalhia Ingram in the triple jump. Several other former Huskers are also slated to compete including: Tressa Thompson (shot put), Shane Lavy (high jump) and Joe Erdkamp (discus).
