Two Huskers Named to Academic All-District VII Team

Lincoln -- Nebraska seniors Stella Klassen and Cassi Morelock, both members of the Big 12 Conference champion track and field squad, have been named to the 2000 GTE Academic All-District VII Spring At Large Team, announced Tuesday.

Klassen, an elementary education major, is a four-time Academic All-Big 12 selection and a six-time All-American on the track. A 2000 team captain, Klassen most recently earned All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, finishing third in the 400 meters and sixth in the 4x400-meter relay.

Morelock, who finished second in the javelin at the Big 12 outdoor meet on May 21, is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection and earned All-America honors in the javelin in 1999. A physical education/coaching major, Morelock will likely participate in the U.S. Olympic Trials later this summer.

Members of the academic all-district teams will move on to the national ballot and be eligible for Academic All-America honors.

Both Klassen and Morelock will next be in action May 31 through June 3 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Durham, N.C.
