Husker Bats Lead Way To 12-1 Win Over OSU

Stillwater, Okla.-The Nebraska softball team returned to its winning ways Sunday with an offensive barrage against the No. 22 Oklahoma State Cowgirls at Cowgirl Field. The Huskers slugged 12 hits for a 12-1 win, aided by a three-hitter from NU sophomore pitcher Leigh Ann Walker. Nebraska improved to 33-18 overall and 8-2 in Big 12 play after splitting with both Oklahoma State and Oklahoma over the weekend.

Nebraska continued its trend of scoring in the first with a lone run in the top half of the inning. Kim Ogee led off with a single to left and was sacrificed to second on Leigh Suhr's bunt. Ogee scored two batters later when the OSU second baseman mishandled an Amber Burgess grounder. Nebraska's second run came in the top of the fourth when Jenifer Williams hit a bloop single over the shortstop's head to score Burgess from third.

Walker held OSU in check, striking out the side in order in both the second and third. Nebraska put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth with a five-run inning off of two hits and three Cowgirl errors. Ogee got things started again with a single to right field. Back-to-back errors by OSU's shortstop resulted in the first Husker run. Burgess knocked in the next two runs with the first of her two doubles on the game. Two walks and a two-out error led to the final two runs of the inning and made it 7-0 Huskers.

After Oklahoma broke up the shutout with a single run the Huskers posted a second five-run inning one frame later to end the game in the sixth. Ogee started the sixth off with a walk and was moved to second on a Jennifer Lizama single. Burgess then slugged her second double of the game and eighth of the season. Jamie Fuente then drew a walk to load the bases for Williams who singled for the third time in the game. Brewer and pinch hitter Heather Martin added the final two runs with a pair of singles to make it 12-1.

Walker finished the game with nine strikeouts after surrendering just three hits to improve to 13-5 on the year. Ogee, Burgess and Williams all finished the game with three hits apiece. Nebraska recorded a season-high 12 hits for the third time this season and broke a 12-game losing streak in Stillwater.

The Huskers will return to home action with a single game against Iowa State on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Jenny Voss will attempt to become the 19th pitcher in NCAA history to record 100 wins in a career.
