The Huskers' first run came in the bottom of the first for the third straight game. Freshman leadoff hitter Kim Ogee was hit by the first pitch thrown to her, and advanced to second on Ginger Taylor's groundout. Amber Burgess then singled to center putting runners on the corners. Cleanup hitter Jamie Fuente then laid down a perfectly placed sacrifice squeeze bunt that scored Ogee from third for the only run the Huskers would need. Voss brought a no hitter into the top of the fourth before giving up a leadoff single to Alyson Carter. Carter advanced only as far as second, however, before Voss got the final two outs of the inning. In the bottom of the fourth, freshman Amanda Buchholz led off with a walk and was singled to second by Lori Tschannen's second hit of the day. A sacrifice bunt by Jill Baker then moved two runners into scoring position for Voss. Voss bunted a single that scored Buchholz for the second run of the game. After loading the bases later in the inning with two out, Burgess grounded out to the shortstop to end the fourth. NU's final run of the game came on a solo homer by senior Jenifer Williams in the bottom of the fifth. Williams' homer was her first of the season and fourth of her career. Voss took it from there as she struck out five of the last seven batters faced. She ended the game with a season-high 10 strikeouts, which was just one away from her career record, and improved to 9-6 on the season with the two-hitter. She has not allowed more than four hits in a complete-game effort in her last six outings. Tschannen led all Huskers at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance, including a second-inning double.
NU's 10-game winning streak is the longest since it put together an 11-game streak from April 25-May 17, 1998. The longest winning streak in Husker history stands seven games away at 17.
Nebraska will finish off its seven-game homestand with an evening doubleheader against Wichita State at 6 and 8 p.m. Wichita State (9-15) was rained out of a doubleheader against Oklahoma State today.
