Lincoln -- The Nebraska women's track & field team claimed the dual-meet title for the indoor season, according to the USTCA Team Power Rankings, following a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., last weekend. The Husker men finished fifth in the power rankings, which give points based on each team's top two performers in every event.
"We've always prided ourselves at Nebraska on having balanced teams," said Nebraska Head Coach Gary Pepin, who led both squads to Big 12 Indoor Championships in February. "This is a big deal to our team."
Of the nine Husker women that competed in the NCAA championship meet, seven claimed All-America honors, including senior sprinter Stella Klassen, who was named an All-American in both the 400 meters and the 4x400-meter relay.
The Nebraska men, who finished tied for 24th at the NCAA Indoor Championships, were led by freshman Eric Eshbach, who tied for fifth in the pole vault, and sophomore Sheldon Hutchinson, who placed sixth in the triple jump.
NU will open its outdoor season March 16-18 at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas.
