Dallas, Texas -- Nebraska junior wingback Bobby Newcombe was honored as the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Huskers' 24-17 win at Kansas last Saturday.
Newcombe accounted for 200 all-purpose yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Huskers' 24-17 win. He gave NU its first lead of the day at 10-9 in the third quarter with a career-long 86-yard punt return for a touchdown and scored the winning touchdown with a 49-yard TD from Eric Crouch with just over three minutes remaining. It was Newcombe's second career punt return for a touchdown and the first by a Husker since Joe Walker's 73-yard TD against Oklahoma State last season. Newcombe also had career bests with four receptions for 89 yards. On the season, Newcombe is averaging 23.5 yards per return, a total which would rank first nationally, but he is two returns short of the 1.2 minimum per game.
Other players selected this week include Colorado quarterback Mike Moschetti, who earned Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors and Missouri senior nose tackle Jeff Marriott of Chillicothe, Mo., who was selected as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
