Lincoln - Three Husker wrestlers have been recognized for academic and athletic achievement by the NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association).
Senior Scott Munson, sophomore Brad Vering and freshman Joe Henson were among the individuals honored for performing in the classroom and in competition.
Vering led the trio of Huskers with second-team NWCA Academic All-America status. The All American from Howells, Neb., finished fourth in the 184-pound weight class at the NCAA Championships last March. A diversified agricultural studies major, Vering has maintained a 3.083 GPA and was one of 10 athletes selected to the second team.
Henson and Munson each earned honorable-mention NWCA Academic All-America awards.
In a breakthrough freshman campaign at 149 pounds, Henson finished with a 20-11 record, an NCAA berth and lost to a wrestler ranked outside of the nation's top six just once. A native of Hanover, Pa., with a 3.447 GPA in International Business, Henson was one of three Huskers to earn Big 12 Wrestler-of-the-Week honors last season.
Munson capped a successful career at Nebraska with his first career NCAA Championship appearance and a 25-12 record during his senior year. The 197-pounder from Arkansas City, Kan., is a finance major with a 3.344 GPA.
