Stanford, Calif. -- The top-ranked Stanford men's swimming and diving team (9-0), won nine of 15 events, paving the way for a 169-106 victory over 15th-ranked Nebraska (8-3) at the deGuerre pool on Friday afternoon.
Stanford also competed against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, cruising to a 211-48 victory.
Diving events highlighted the day for Nebraska, as Danny Bergman (334.50), Erik Cook (289.05) and Gabe Downey (287.75) finished one-two-three in the one-meter competition. Bergman then went on to win the three meter (353.475), followed by Downey (332.10) and Cook (332.025).
Freshman Anthony Rogis captured the 100- (45.54) and 200-yard freestyle (1:39.26) events.
Stanford senior Dod Wales broke the deGuerre pool record in winning the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 47.11 (old record: 47.97, Sabir Muhammad, 1998). Wales handed Husker All-American Adam Pine his first defeat in the 100-yard butterfly this season, as the NU junior placed second in a time of 48.06. At the 1998 NCAA Championships, Wales placed third in the event in a time of 46.32, while Pine finished fourth (46.35).
Tomorrow the Nebraska men's swimming and diving team will be in Berkeley, Calif., for a double dual with eighth-ranked California and UC Santa Barbara.
