Lincoln - While the eighth-ranked women's squad is off until the Big 12 Championships, the 15th-ranked Nebraska men's swimming and diving team is set for a busy weekend, heading west for a series of duals in California.
The NU men's squad begins with a double dual between defending NCAA Champion and top-ranked Stanford, as well as Cal-Santa Barbara, on Friday, Feb. 5, at 1 p.m. CST, in Palo Alto, Calif. The following day, the Huskers travel to Berkeley, Calif. for a battle with the eighth-ranked California Golden Bears. Start time is 10:30 a.m. CST.
Weekend Outlook
The 15th-ranked Huskers (8-2, 3-0), are coming off a pair of conference victories versus rivals Kansas and Missouri, as they head into action against their biggest dual challenge of the season in Top-ranked Stanford.
The Cardinal, 7-0 on the season, is coming off back-to-back victories over fifth-ranked Arizona and No. 10 Arizona State. Stanford and NU last squared off on Nov. 11, 1995, as the Cardinal dealt NU a 141-81 loss in Palo Alto. Nebraska has never beaten Stanford in dual competition, as the Cardinal owns a 3-0 advantage in the series.
The Cal-Santa Barbara Gauchos have posted a 5-3 dual mark on the season. The Gauchos and NU met once on Jan. 10, 1997, with Nebraska coming away with a 113-91 win in Santa Barbara.
Eighth-ranked California is quietly putting together one of the best dual records in the nation, owning a 7-0 record. The Golden Bears, who will face USC on Feb. 5, have notched victories over No. 10 Arizona State, No. 9 Michigan and fifth ranked Arizona. Cal last met with NU on Nov. 10, 1995, running away with by the score of 152-87. That win evened the series at 1-1.
