Nebraska Women Take Third at USTCA Team Championships
Austin, Texas - With the help of first-place finishes from All-Americans Melissa Price and Carrie Braness, the Nebraska women's track and field team placed third at the USTCA Team Championships on Saturday. The Husker men finished fourth at the unique two-day scored meet against many of the nation's top track and field programs.
"It was a stellar meet loaded with national-caliber athletes," Nebraska Head Coach Gary Pepin said. "We can see that there are some areas where we can improve before the conference meet, but overall, we had a good meet."
Texas won both team competitions at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. The Longhorn women scored 109.5 points, followed by UCLA (103), Nebraska (84) and South Carolina (82). On the men's side, Texas won the team title with 103 points, followed by LSU (86), Texas A&M (81) and Nebraska (68).
Price, a junior, regained the nation's lead in the hammer throw Saturday with a winning mark of 213-1, tying her career best. Her NCAA automatic qualifying mark currently ranks third in the United States this year. Husker junior Erin Wibbels took fifth in the hammer with a provisional mark of 195-1.
