Nebraska Sweeps Quadrangular
Lincoln - The Nebraska track and field team opened their home season in winning fashion sweeping both the men's and women's titles in a quadrangular with Kansas, Kansas State and Wyoming at the Ed Weir Track and Field Stadium on Saturday. The Husker men won nine events to total 209 points, handily defeating runner-up Kansas State (163.5), while the women edged the Wildcats 197-189.5.
Despite a few setbacks, including the temporary placement of the MONDO surface on the high jump and pole vault runways, Head Coach Gary Pepin said he was pleased with the Huskers' performance.
"I thought we had some individuals that improved today," Pepin said. "But it's disappointing that the track wasn't completed and up to snuff."
On the men's side, junior Jimmy Pino led Nebraska in the sprints, capturing both the 100 and 200 meter titles. Pino's time of 20.6 in the 200, would have qualified as an NCAA provisional mark, but because of equipment malfunctions in the electronic timing system, all races were timed by hand, eliminating the possibility of any qualifying times.
Junior Shaun Kologinczak won the high jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying jump of 7-1
