Huskers Shut Out Fresno State, 8-0

Lincoln - No. 10 Nebraska tuned up for its defense of the Big 12 Tournament title with an 8-0 win over No. 21 Fresno State in front of 1,534 fans at Buck Beltzer Stadium Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Huskers, who face Missouri in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla., Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m., finish the regular season with a 42-14 record, the eighth-best win total in school history.

After being held to just four runs in the first two games of the series, the Huskers scored two or more runs in three of the first four innings en route to scoring eight runs on 12 hits. Four Huskers had two hits apiece, including Jamal Strong, who went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, and Adam Shabala, who went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and two runs scored.

Three Husker pitchers combined for a five-hit shutout. Senior Trevor Bullock, who improved to 5-1 on the season, pitched the first seven innings, allowing five hits and striking out five. Scott Fries and Chad Wiles each threw one scoreless inning in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.
