Although Justin Smith plays football, patience has been the name of his game.

Smith, a senior from Sherman, Texas, waited in the wings for his first three seasons in Lincoln, but in 2001, Smith seized the opportunity to move into a four-man rotation at rush end.

"When I am given an opportunity, I try to maximize it to the best of my ability," Smith said.

Heading into fall practice, Smith is listed second on the depth chart at left rush end behind fellow senior Chris Kelsay.
