NU Defeats Kansas, 7-5, in Second Round of Big 12 Tournament

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The seventh-ranked Nebraska softball team remained perfect in the Big 12 Tournament with a 7-5 win over Kansas Friday night before 1,358 fans at the Don Porter ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. As tournament action continues Saturday, third-seeded Nebraska will take on the winner of No. 4 seed Baylor and No. 5 seed Texas A&M at 5 p.m.

Leigh Ann Walker (25-4) was the winning pitcher for NU, which defeated Oklahoma State, 2-0, in the first game of the day. Walker tossed four innings of no-hit ball after entering the game in relief of Peaches James, who allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits in 3.0 innings.

Offensively, the Huskers were led by junior shortstop Amanda Buchholz, who went 3-for-3 with a double. Sophomore first baseman Nicole Trimboli was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Junior center fielder Kim Ogee tied the NU single-game record for walks with three. She shares the mark with 29 other Huskers.

Serena Settlemier started on the mound for Kansas (33-24) and scattered five hits and gave up five runs, including three earned. Kara Pierce (12-9), who was credited with the loss, took over in the fourth allowed two runs in one-third of an inning. Kirsten Milhoan pitched the final 2.2 innings and held NU scoreless on four hits.
