Huskers Rebound Against Missouri
Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska women's tennis team rebounded well against Missouri, winning 7-0, Saturday morning at Woods Tennis Center after a rough two-loss weekend in Texas.
"I was glad we all came out to play," senior Ndali Ijomah said. "After the close match with Texas I was wondering how we would come back. We played like fighters today."
The Huskers took some of their frustrations from the Texas match out on the Tigers. The Huskers started the dual in their normal home fashion, by taking all three doubles matches, getting NU the early lead.
In singles action the Huskers continued to play with confidence and were able to grab all six singles matches. Freshman Leslie Harvey (San Diego, Calif.) got her first win in four meets.
In doubles, junior Katarina Balan (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) and freshman RoseKetmayura (Austin, Texas) teamed up at the No. 1 spot to defeat Jessica Ferguson and Urska Juric, 8-4, while at the No. 2 spot, Leslie Harvey and freshman Rebecca Harvey (San Diego, Calif.) teamed for the first time this spring and handed Kristina Olshnskaya and Mirana Zelenovic a loss, 8-2. Rounding out doubles at the No. 3 spot, Ijomah (Seattle, Wash.) and junior Amy Frisch (Crescent, Ky.) defeated Caitlin Thompson and Cassie Drake.
In singles action, Leslie Harvey defeated Ferguson, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot, while Balan grabbed a win at the No. 2 spot over Juric, 6-4, 6-1. At the No. 3 spot, Ijomah won a hard fought match against Olshnskaya, 6-4, 6-3. Frisch grabbed a win at the No. 4 spot defeating Thompson, 6-1, 6-1, and Rebecca Harvey defeated Cassie Drake, 6-4, 6-4. Rose Ketmayura rounds out the dual, winning 6-2, 7-5 against Andrea Friedman.
The Huskers improve their record to 9-2. Nebraska will face Southwest Missouri State on Sunday at 10 a.m. at Woods Tennis Center.
