Before Nebraska (Butler County Community College)

  • Joined Nebraska for the fall 2017 semester after spending the past two seasons at Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kan., where she was one of the nation’s top junior college pitchers
  • Two-time junior college All-American
  • Compiled a 58-3 record with a 1.07 ERA in two years at Butler
  • Allowed only 45 earned runs in 293.1 innings and struck out 370 batters
  • Opponents hit just .193 against Mergele in her Butler career and managed only 28 extra-base hits in 1,176 at bats
  • Helped Butler to back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national championships in 2016 and 2017
  • In 2017, she was the ace of a deep Grizzly staff that helped Butler finish with a 58-1 record, including a perfect 48-0 regular season
  • Ended her Butler career with a personal 45-game winning streak, while the Grizzlies posted an 88-game winning streak during Mergele’s career.
  • Named a first-team NJCAA Division I All-American in 2017 and both the NJCAA Division I Committee and Fastpitch News tabbed Mergele as the 2017 NJCAA Division I Pitcher of the Year
  • Served as the Grizzlies’ top pitcher in the 2017 postseason – and all season long – helping Butler become the first NJCAA Division I team to win back-to-back national titles since the NJCAA split into separate divisions in 1997
  • Was the winning pitcher in six of Butler’s 10 postseason victories, posting a 6-0 record with a 1.77 ERA in 27.2 innings
  • Allowed only 19 hits in her 27.2 postseason innings, while totaling 38 strikeouts, an average of 9.6 strikeouts per seven innings
  • Was part of a combined no-hitter in a must-win game in the Region VI Tournament final against Seward County, striking out 10 in her 5.0 no-hit innings
  • Earned a series-opening victory at Trinidad State in district play, before posting a 3-0 record at the NJCAA Championship, including earning the victory in the national championship game against Salt Lake

  • Finished her final season at Butler with a 34-0 record, ending her junior college career with a personal 45-game winning streak

  • Averaged 10.6 strikeouts per seven innings – the second-highest average of any NJCAA Division I pitcher – totaling 196 strikeouts on the season
  • Ranked third nationally in ERA and opponent batting average in 2017 and was sixth in wins and ninth in total strikeouts
  • Helped lead Butler to its first national title as a freshman
  • Posted a 24-3 record in 2016 with a 1.51 ERA and 134 strikeouts in 143.1 innings
  • Ranked 18th nationally in wins and was named an NJCAA All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association
  • Contributed to Butler’s national championship by posting a 1-0 record with a 2.25 ERA over three appearances at the NJCAA Division I Championship, including a five-hit shutout against Chipola in the semifinals

Before Nebraska (Smithson Valley HS)

  • Was a state champion in high school, pitching Smithson Valley to a Texas Class 5A state title as a 14-year-old freshman in 2012
  • Posted a 1.23 ERA with 202 strikeouts in 159.2 innings as a senior to earn all-area and honorable-mention all-state accolades
  • Was named the South MVP of the 2015 Greater Austin Area All-Star Game following her senior season

Personal

  • Daughter of Jerry and Julie Mergele
  • Has one sister, Kassidy
  • Born on July 9, 1997
  • Majored in child, youth and family studies and earned her bachelor's degree in December of 2019
  • Mergele’s coaches at Smithson Valley were former Husker Lisa Daigle and former Nebraska coach Wayne Daigle
  • Favorite thing to do outside of school and softball is to go backriding in her Jeep (Big Blue), while jamming to music
