Redshirt Freshman (2023-24)
A talented golfer from Germany, Sydney Harz provided depth to Nebraska’s lineup while redshirting as a true freshman in 2022-23.
With a year of experience and growth at Nebraska under her belt, she earned her first tournament appearance as a collegian to open the spring at the 2024 UCF Challenge (Feb. 3-5). Playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup, Harz tied for 80th with a 228, including rounds of 77, 78 and 73 at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando. Her performance helped her earn her first career lineup spot at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational (Feb. 18-19) in Sarasota, Fla., where she produced a 36-hole score of 157 (82-75) to tie for 67th in the rain-shortened event at Palm Aire Country Club.
Harz also traveled to the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational as part of Nebraska's six-count-four lineup in the event, as Kelli Ann Strand missed the tournament while recovering from an injury. Harz managed an 81 in the opening round but did not complete the second round. She did not compete in the final round.
Over six rounds in 2023-24, Harz posted a 77.67 stroke average.
A member of the German Junior National Team, Harz was the runner-up at the German National Youth Challenge in 2022.
Redshirt (2022-23)
Harz redshirted in her first season at Nebraska. She made a solid adjustment to college life in the United States by earning spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters of 2022-23. Harz was also a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
Before Nebraska
One of the top players in Germany the past several years, Harz comes to Nebraska as a member of the German Junior National Team.
She won the 2020 Freiburg Golf Club Championship at her home club with a three-round total of 204 (-9). She also took a runner-up finish at the 2020 National Youth Challenge U16 in Spessart, after also taking second at the 2020 State Squad Qualifying tournament with a single-round 69 (-3).
In 2018, Harz won the BWGZ State Championships U14 with a two-round score of 142 (-2), while adding a title at the 2018 International Match Play. She also finished third at the German National Semifinals U16 in 2019.
Personal
The daughter of Holger and Anja Bauer-Harz, Sydney was born Jan. 11, 2004 in Freiburg, Germany. Sydney is majoring in business and law at Nebraska. She has earned three spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll, including a 4.0 GPA in the fall of 2023. She is a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
