Outlook (2023-24)
Leah Herbel brings championship experience with her to the Nebraska women’s golf team after six years of high school golf that included a trio of North Dakota state championships at Bismarck Century. Herbel hopes to contend for time in an experienced Husker lineup as a freshman in 2023-24 while adjusting to the longer yardages of collegiate courses.

Before Nebraska
Herbel comes to Nebraska after a remarkable career that included a trio of high school team championships in North Dakota. Herbel produced five individual top-15 finishes at the North Dakota High School Class A Championships during her six-year career as a high school golfer. She capped her prep journey with her best individual finish at the state tournament, taking third to lead Bismarck Century to the Class A state title in the fall of 2022. It was her third career top-five individual finish at the state tournament, joining a fourth-place showing as an eighth grader in the fall of 2018 and a tie for fifth as a freshman in 2019.
Herbel capped her first season of high school competition by tying for 13th at the 2017 North Dakota Class A state championships as a seventh grader. She added another tie for 13th as a junior in 2021, after missing the 2020 state tournament. Herbel’s twin sister, Hannah, was the 2022 North Dakota Athlete of the Year for girls golf and won back-to-back individual state championships as an eighth grader (2018) and freshman (2019). Hannah is a freshman at Baylor in 2023-24. A talented all-around athlete, Herbel was also a member of Century’s Class A state championship 4x400-meter relay team that set the state meet record in the spring of 2019.
