2012-13 (Junior)
Regular Season
A leader in the classroom, Michael Klinginsmith earned academic All-Big Ten honors in 2013. On the mat, he went 8-2 at 165 pounds and earned three pins in the process. Klinginsmith tied for first at the UNK Loper Open in December and finished second at the Viking-Warrior Open in January.
2011-12 (Sophomore)
Regular Season
Klinginsmith went 19-13 at 165 pounds during his sophomore year, recording two pins and four major decision victories. He opened his season by going 2-2 at the Warren Williams/Daktronics Open. He added a fourth-place finish with a 3-2 record at the UNK Loper Open to improve his record to 10-10 on the season.
Klinginsmith continued to build momentum with a 4-1 record to finish third at the Viking-Warrior Open. He won his first tournament title of the year at the York College Open, posting a perfect 3-0 record. His final competition of the season came with a 2-2 mark at the Grand View Open.
Klinginsmith produced another strong year in the classroom by posting a 4.0 grade-point average. He was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll during both semesters.
2010-11 (Redshirt Freshman)
Regular Season
Klinginsmith finished the season with a 16-13 overall record and was tied for fifth on the team in pins with five. Klinginsmith kicked off the season by losing three straight matches, but responded with three victories at the Bob Smith Open to pull his record to 3-4. Klinginsmith placed in his first open tournament a week later at the UNK Loper Open by taking fifth. He added a third-place finish at the Viking-Warrior Open in his next tournament.
2009-10 (Redshirt)
Regular Season
Klinginsmith went 13-14 as a redshirt with six pins and three major decisions. His pin total led Nebraska's redshirts in 2009-10. He saw steady improvement throughout the year, as he placed sixth at the Dana Open in early January with a 2-3 mark. The following week, he had the best showing of his season by taking second at the Quality Hotel Open in Hastings with a 4-1 record, as he won three matches in bonus-point fashion.
Before Nebraska
Klinginsmith had a standout career at Kearney Catholic High School. He won the state championship each of his final three years after placing third as a freshman, and finished with a 168-7 overall record.
Klinginsmith also excelled on the football field as the Stars' starting quarterback. He led the team to three straight playoff appearances with a 21-8 record.
In the classroom, Klinginsmith had a 4.0 grade-point average and earned a 35 on his ACT.
Personal
The son of John and Julie Klinginsmith, Michael was born on May 29, 1990 in Davenport, Iowa. He has one sister, Molly, and one brother, Matt. Michael earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2013, after majoring in biological sciences. Klinginsmith was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and garnered academic All-Big Ten honors in 2013. He had a 4.0 grade-point average in 2010 and 2011. Klinginsmith earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2011-12 and 2012-13. He was a four-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection.
