Mullin’s Career Capsule
Meghan Mullin enjoyed an outstanding career at Nebraska. A three-year starter in the outfield, Mullin started appeared in 202 games in her career, including 176 total starts and a string of 157 consecutive starts to end her career. A slapper, Mullin finished her career as a .329 hitter, totaling 176 hits, 104 runs and 54 stolen bases. Mullin led the Big 12 in sacrifices in 2007 and finishe dher career with 34 sacrifices, a total that ranks seventh in Husker history. Mullin also ended her career ranked seventh in Nebraska history with 54 stolen bases, while ranking 11th with her .329 career batting average. Mullin finished her career with a .402 on-base percentage, as she posted more career walks (54) than strikeouts (52). A native of Mesa, Ariz., Mullin led NU in batting average in two of her four seasons as a Husker, while leading NU in stolen bases three times.
Senior Season [2009]
Mullin started every game in center field as a senior, finishing with a .333 average. She set career highs in runs scored (44), doubles (three), RBIs (12), stolen bases (20) and walks (29). She scored 17 more runs in 2009 than in any other season in her career. Her three doubles and 29 walks both surpassed her career total entering the year. Mullin finished with a .436 on-base percentage as a senior batting primarily out of the leadoff spot. Her 29 walks tied for 10th on the Nebraska season record list.
Junior Season [2008]
Mullin started every game in center field, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors after leading Nebraska in average, hits, stolen bases and sacrifices for the second straight year ... was also named to the Big 12 Championship all-tournament team ... shared the team’s MVP honors with Crystal Carwile ... batted first or second in the lineup every game ... hit a career-high .347 on the year while leading the team with 15 multi-hit games, including five contests with three hits ... also stole a career-high 20 bases in only 24 attempts ... hit .310 in league play while producing three RBIs from the leadoff spot ... ranked second on the team with a .357 average with runners in scoring position in Big 12 games only ... ended the season on a career-high-tying 10-game hitting streak, including five multi-hit efforts ... went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and her first career triple against national runner-up Texas A&M ... went 5-for-15 at the Big 12 Championship ... also scored two runs and stole a base to earn a spot on the all-tournament team ... hit a whopping .426 at home while producing all four of her RBIs and adding 13 runs and eight stolen bases ... hit .411 in the month of April, collecting 23 hits in only 17 games.
Sophomore Season [2007]
After contributing in limited action as a freshman, Mullin started every game in 2007 and led the team with 16 multi-hit games and a .318 average ... became the first underclassman to lead NU in average since All-American Anne Steffan in 2003 ... led the team in average, hits, stolen bases and sacrifices ... led the Big 12 and tied for seventh on the NU single-season list with 18 sacrifices ... ranked second on the team with four game-winning RBIs ... went a career-best 4-for-4 against Colorado State, just one hit shy of the school record for a game of seven innings or fewer ... added a double against the Rams for the first extra-base hit of her career ... hit safely in a career-high 10 games from Feb. 23 to March 4, recording five multi-hit efforts during that stretch ... went 3-for-6 with a run scored in the NCAA Tournament ... hit .368 in 23 home games ... batted a team-high .381 with runners on base ... drew 12 walks while striking out just 15 times on the year.
Freshman Season [2006]
Mullin started against No. 7 Stanford in the season opener and made 12 starts on the year ... hit .250 with a stellar .438 on-base percentage ... drew seven walks while striking out only once in 32 plate appearances ... scored 11 runs and added a pair of RBIs and two stolen bases in four attempts ... went 1-for-2 against both No. 7 Stanford and No. 15 Oregon State on the opening day of the year ... scored a career-high two runs against Illinois ... scored two runs against St. John’s while going 1-for-4 at the plate with her first career RBI and stolen base.
Before Nebraska
Mullin hit .567 with 23 RBIs, an on-base percentage of .611 and 16 stolen bases in her senior year at Seton Catholic while playing for her father, Jerry ... she also owned a career record of 21-1 and went 15-0 with a 1.02 ERA as a senior ... offensively, never hit below .415 in a season and hit .511 with 31 RBIs and 21 stolen bases as a junior ... was a four-time 3A first-team South Region and South Conference selection ... also was a four-time first-team East Valley Tribune 2A-4A honoree and was named to the Arizona Republic’s first-team all-state team in 2004 and 2005 and small school first team in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 ... was the Republic’s 2004 and 2005 small school player of the year and was named the All-East Valley 2A-5A Player of the Year.
Personal
Meghan Marjorie Mullin is the daughter of Jerry and Bridget Mullin and was born on Dec. 1, 1986, in Phoenix, Ariz. Meghan has two sisters, Molly Gorman (28) and Brigid (26). A history major, Mullin attended the same high school (Seton Catholic in Mesa, Ariz.) as former Husker Lisa Wangler, who lettered at Nebraska in 2002 and 2003. Seton Catholic is coached by Meghan’s father, Jerry.
