He played an important role for Nebraska in both still rings and pommel horse, including the lead-off spot on pommel horse, one of the most difficult spots in men's gymnastics.  He competed in all but one competition for Nebraska and posted a career-best score on pommel horse at the Arnold Classic (14.50).

Irick helped NU break nine school records as a team in 2016. In the home opener against Air Force, the team break the school record for total score, pommel horse score and high bar score.

The Wichita, Kan., native competed in the postseason as well, including the Big Ten Championships and the NCAA Championships. At the NCAA Championships, Irick assisted in the teams seventh-place finish, its best finish since 1999.

Irick was a star in the classroom while at Nebraska. He earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Academic All-Big Ten and First-Team CGA All-America Scholar-Athlete for three consecutive years. In addition, he has been named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll every semester of his college career and earned Nebraska's Outstanding Scholar Award.
