Ossi Earns Third-Place Smallbore Finish at Conference Championships

The No. 8 Nebraska rifle team stands in fourth place after the first day of the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships on Saturday. The Huskers shot a 2,335 as a team in the smallbore during the first of two days of competition.

No. 2 TCU currently sits in first with a 2349 and is closely followed by No. 4 Alaska-Fairbanks and No. 6 Air Force, which both posted scores of 2,348. No. 8 NU is in fourth (2,335), No. 10 Ohio State is fifth (2,332) and No. 19 UTEP is sixth (2,276). 

Two-time smallbore All-American Cecelia Ossi qualified for the finals in the event after posting a score of 589 in the preliminary rounds, which was fourth among all competitors. Ossi earned a third-place finish in the finals with a 450.8.

“Cecelia did an amazing job representing Nebraska,” Head Coach Mindy Miles said. “She dug deep after her sling positions and put together a great standing score to climb up the rankings in the final and win third.”

Ossi led the Big Red with her 589. Sophomore Emma Rhode earned a 585 and freshman Charlotte Mick notched a 581. Junior Mackenzie Strauch (580), senior Madelynn Erickson (574) and sophomore Camilla Johannessen (560) rounded out the lineup. 

The Huskers will compete in the air rifle portion of the PRC Championships tomorrow, Feb. 4, starting at 7 a.m. (central). Fans can follow along with live results here.
