Breedlove Leads Huskers to Top Five Finish in Texas

Houston, Texas - Freshman Lani Breedlove finished at the top of the standings individually with a 226 average, and the Nebraska bowling team finished fifth at the 2023 Track Kat Klash with a record of 9-4 and a total pinfall of 13,268. The Huskers are now 17-9 on the season after their first two tournaments.

The Huskers started day three with a best-of-seven baker game match against No. 8 Sam Houston on Sunday morning. The Huskers won the first game, 199 to 168 before Sam Houston answered back with a 246 in game two against Nebraska’s 171 to secure the second match win. Sam Houston and the Cornhuskers battled big in game three, giving a tie of 214 for each. Demanding lanes would hold back the Huskers letting the Bearkats steal a double win in games four (202-195) and five (247-217) before sealing up the win in game six (202-188) to advance into the winners bracket with Nebraska going on to face No. 4 North Carolina A&T.

In the second match of the day, the Bulldogs secured the first game with a 210-160 win before Nebraska answered in game two with a massive 266-214 win to tie it up. A close loss in game three would be by a single pin (201-202) before the Bulldogs caught fire in game five with a 268-213 win. North Carolina A&T would seal the win in game six (204-1540) leaving Nebraska to face No. 13 Newman to compete for a fifth-place finish.

In the final match of the tournament, Nebraska was ready and came out of the gate hot with a double win in games one (249-200) and two (193-152). Game three would be a tighter match with the Huskers taking the win 205-203 before sealing the match win in game four 232-172, to secure a fifth-place finish.

Four Huskers finished in the top 20 of overall individual standings of the tournament. Breedlove led the overall standings in first with a 1130 pinfall and a 226.00 average. Anna Callan finished in seventh with 1079 total and 215.80 average. Brenna Hartzler finished in 18th with 990 and 198.00 average, and Alexis Buchert rounded out the team at 19th with 989 and a 197.80 average.

Up next, the Big Red is back in action Nov. 10-12, as the Huskers travel to Kenosha, Wis. to compete in the SFA Ladyjack Classic, hosted by No. 4 Stephen F Austin.
