Affinity Groups

Athlete Ally is a group intended for building support and community within LGBTQ+ student-athletes and their allys. This group will offer support for student-athletes and a space to discuss concerns that may impact mental health and well-being as well as facilitate peer dialogue around current events and issues. The Nebraska chapter of Athlete Ally also strives to work with the community and give back through various efforts throughout the semester. Athlete Ally is drop-in and open to all student-athletes who wish to support the LGBTQ+ community.

Black Student-Athlete Alliance (BSAA) focuses on the well-being of student-athletes across all sports within Nebraska’s Athletics Department, with an emphasis on topics related to African American/Black student-athletes. The group provides a space for participants to share and learn about the experiences of African American/Black student athletes. Additionally, the group provides a space to build a community for student-athletes to address concerns that may impact mental health and cultivate coping strategies through peer dialogue that may improve sport performance and overall well-being. Groups are drop-in & welcome to all student-athletes interested in participating.

International Student-Athlete Alliance (ISAA) supports, educates, and advocates for international student-athletes in the process of transitioning to Nebraska and intercollegiate athletics. The group will offer support for student-athletes who are adjusting to the demands of being a student-athlete, while also adapting to a new culture. Groups are drop-in and welcome to all student-athletes who want to use their voice to support international student-athletes. 

The Women's Student-Athlete Leadership Group offers the opportunity for all student-athletes to be a champion for women’s athletics and inspire the next generation of women in sport. It is committed to the access, inclusion and advancement of women in college sports. This group also provides space to discuss individual experiences, build community, and continue to elevate girls and women in sport. This group is open to all student-athletes who want to use their voice to support women’s athletics.
