Four Huskers Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

Nebraska track and field’s Kavian Kerr, Riley Boonstra, Johanna Ilves and Jacelyn Neighbors were announced as Big Ten Athletes of the Week on Wednesday by the conference office.

Kerr, a junior from St. Catherine, Jamaica, secured the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honor after claiming the long jump title at the Ward Haylett Invitational last weekend, jumping 7.60m (24-11 ¼). Two Husker freshmen earned the newcomer award as Neighbors earned the pole vault event title win in Manhattan, Kan., clearing 4.32m (14-2), a new personal best and third-best mark in school history, and Boonstra won the men’s 3000m steeplechase, running 9:19.34. Rounding out the group was Ilves, as she was named the Track Athlete of the Week, after winning the 100mH title at Kansas State, clocking a 13.70.

This marks Neighbors’ second Freshman of the Week honor this season, as the Huskers now have won nine awards this indoor and outdoor season combined.

Up next, Nebraska heads to Eugene, Ore., for the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Friday, May 16-Sunday, May 18.
