2007-08 Review

Lone senior Lindsay Baker has been a strong leader on the Husker squad this season. In just her first tournament of the year, the Cheeseland Classic on Nov. 11, Baker claimed second place with a 205 average and and earned the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award. She then went on to place sixth at the Maverick Challend on Nov. 17 with an average of 196. Baker rolled an average of 208 to end the fall season at the Capital City Classic on Dec. 2. Her score earned her 13th place at the competition.

After the New Year, Baker competed in the Team USA trials, where she placed in the top-20 but did not make the team. Despite the Team USA trial outcome, Baker came back rolling with a first-place finish at the Morgan State Invitational on Feb. 17. Her 217..40 average and top finish marked the first time since her sophomore season that she claimed first place at a competition. Baker finished the regular season with a season-high score of 221 for fourth place at the Holiday Classic on March 2.

Baker holds a 202.70 average as she heads into post-season competition.

2006-07 Review
Baker had a successful junior season as she claimed three top-five finishes, including second place at the Morgan State Invitational in Baltimore, Md., on Feb. 18, 2007.  Baker rolled a total pinfall of 12,866 over 66 games for an average of 194.9. She helped the Huskers to a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships by placing 17th with a 209.7 average over four games.

 

2005-06 Review
In her sophomor year at Nebraska, Baker was extremely valuable to the 2005-06 Nebraska lineup, as she competed in all nine tournaments and cracked the top five in six compeititons.  Her best finish came at the Greater Ozark Invitational in Springfield, Mo., where she held a 227.6 average over seven games for a first-place finish.  Baker also closed the year with the third-highest single-season scoring average in school history, finishing with a 213 average over 60 games.  Baker helped Nebraska to a third-place finish at the 2006 NCAA Championships, as she produced a top-20 finish in the competition.  Baker finished the season on a high note, as she was named the 2006 National Tenpin Coaches Association National Player of the Year.  She also earned first-team All-America honors along with Amanda Burgoyne.

2004-05 Review
Baker dominated her first season for the Huskers. In 56 games she averaged a total of 205.089 and posted nine top-10 finishes. Baker’s best finish took place at the Mankato Invitational where she placed first with a 204.75 average. Baker competed in nine tournaments, including the NCAA Championship where she was named to the all-tournament team with a career-high average of 234. Baker was also named NCAA Rookie of the Year. Baker topped off her outstanding season by being chosen a National Tenpin Coaches Association’s First-Team All-American.

Before Nebraska
Baker was a standout in the New York State Bowling Association individual competitions as she broke every high school record and was the only person to bowl a 300 in competition. Baker earned NYSBA All-State honors for four years and also earned the Player-of-the-Year award. In addition to bowling, Baker participated in track.

Personal
Lindsay Baker, the daughter of Henry and Cheryl Baker, was born on Dec. 28, 1985, in Amherst, N.Y. Lindsay, an English major, graduated from Sweet Home High School in 2004. She has two brothers, Jeff and Kevin, and one sister, Jennifer.
