2022 (Fifth Year)
Makayla Curtis returned to the Nebraska roster for her fifth year to use her last year of eligibility. Curtis started the year strong, competing against Iowa State on beam and floor. Curtis competed on vault, bars and beam against BYU. At Iowa, Curtis competed on vault (9.775) and floor (9.800). In a win against Illinois, Curtis earned a 9.725 on vault and a 9.850 on floor. Curtis competed on vault and floor against Ohio State and earned a season-high 9.825 on vault and a 9.850 on floor. At Maryland, Curtis earned a 9.825 on vault and a 9.875, a season high, on floor. Curtis competed on vault, beam and floor in the Big Five meet, Michigan meet, Masters Classic and Denver quad meet. Curtis finished her season at the Big Ten Championships, competing on vault (9.825), beam (9.775) and floor (9.825).

2021 (Senior) 

Curtis was a consistent contributor during the 2021 season competing in all 10 meets on vault, beam and floor. Curtis earned a season-high score of 9.875 on vault at the Big Ten Championships (3/20/21). Curtis had an outstanding performance against Iowa earning season-high scores on beam (9.950) and floor (9.900) on March 14. Curtis also excelled in the classroom earning the Nebraska Bronze Academic Medallion. A four-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team, Curtis was recognized for her leadership and service in the Lincoln community. 

2020 (Junior)

Curtis put together her most productive year as a Husker, regularly competing on three events before the coronavirus pandemic abruptly ended the season in mid-March. Curtis established new career highs on beam (9.900), floor exercise (9.875) and vault (9.825) while competing on beam and floor in all nine of Nebraska’s scheduled completed competitions during the year. In the Huskers’ dual win over Penn State (Jan. 16), Curtis notched her career best with a 9.875 on floor. She posted another career high with her 9.900 on beam in a dual victory at Michigan State (Jan. 26). She performed well on all three of her events at the Big Five Meet (Feb. 21), including a career-best 9.825 on vault to go along with a 9.825 on beam and a 9.80 on floor to help the Huskers to a team win over Illinois, Ohio State, Iowa and Rutgers. In the classroom, Curtis earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters. She was also a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for the third consecutive year.

2019 (Sophomore)

Curtis built on the foundation she laid in her freshman season, competing in 10 events, primarily on vault and beam, as a sophomore. She set a season high on balance beam with a score of 9.825 on two occasions, including a dual against Ohio State (Feb. 16). She earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the spring semester, and was named to the 2019 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

2018 (Freshman)
Curtis saw action in four meets during her freshman campaign while adding depth on the vault. In her first career appearance on the vault, she posted a season-high 9.775 vs. Michigan (Jan. 27). She also scored 9.750 on the vault in her last appearance of the season at Oklahoma. She earned a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2018.
 

Before Nebraska     
Curtis trained at Summit Gymnastics in Savannah, Ga., under Shelley Davis and Dave Anderson. A two-time J.O. National Championships qualifier, Curtis tied for 12th on floor at the 2016 national meet. A talented vaulter, Curtis finished second on the event at the 2017 Georgia State Championships and third at the 2017 Region 8 Championships. At the 2016 Region 8 Championships, she notched a second-place finish on vault, a fifth-place finish on floor and a sixth-place finish in the all-around. She tied for third on both vault and beam at the 2016 Georgia State Championships. Curtis also posted strong scores competing for Excalibur Gymnastics in 2015, including a fourth-place finish on vault at the 2015 J.O. National Championships. Curtis finished second on beam, fifth on floor and tied for fourth in the all-around at the 2015 Virginia State Championships. She chose Nebraska over Florida and Georgia. She graduated from Islands High School in 2017.

Personal
The daughter of Melissa and Clark Curtis, Makayla was born on Jan. 29, 1999. Makayla has an older brother, Hunter, and a younger brother, Christian. A sports media and communication major, Makayla earned her bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2022. She is a three-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection and a five-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
