Rodney Fields joined the Huskers and quickly took his place in the backcourt, as he started 24 games as a senior. A native of Tampa, Fla., Fields joined the Huskers after two seasons at Tyler Junior College.

Fields did not register as the Huskers' top scorer or rebounder, and frequently did not have many figures on the stat sheet at the end of the night. However, he was considered by coach Collier and his staff as Nebraska's top defensive performer, as he regularly guarded the opposing team's top offensive threat and consistently shut them down.

Fields finished his career with a 4.9 points-per-game average to go along with 2.1 rebounds and 1.69 assists per game. He had a career game against Minnesota during the 2000-01 season, scoring 12 points with a career-high eight rebounds, while hitting 3-of-4 three-point field goals.

Fields was honored as the Husker basketball team's Lifter of the Year in 2001 after setting numerous team lifting records during the course of the season.
