Tristan Alvano won Nebraska's starting place-kicking job during fall camp and has started every game. In his first game at Minnesota, Alvano connected on a 27-yard field goal in his lone attempt. He also added an extra point and had two kickoffs, both of which resulted in the Gophers starting drives inside their 20-yard line. At Colorado, Alvano had a touchback on his lone kickoff and connected on both PATs. He was 5-of-5 on extra points against Northern Illinois and had one touchback on three kickoffs. Alvano made all four of his PATs against Louisiana Tech and had two touchbacks on four kickoffs. He made one extra point and had one touchback against Michigan. Alvano was 2-of-3 on field goals at Illinois, and he had one touchback on two kickoffs. Alvano made a then-career-long 47-yard field goal against Northwestern.
Against Purdue, Alvano connected on a 55-yard field goal in his lone attempt. The field goal was the longest by a freshman in program history and tied for the second-longest kick overall in Nebraska history. He added a 24-yard field goal at Michigan State. Alvano connected on his fourth consecutive field goal with a 38-yarder against Maryland, and he also had three touchbacks in three kickoffs against the Terps. Alvano made 1-of-2 field goals at Wisconsin, with his lone make being a 30-yarder with four seconds left that sent the game into overtime.
Before Nebraska (Omaha Westside HS)
Tristan Alvano was a record-breaking kicker for Omaha Westside High School. He set state all-class records for most field goals in a game and in a season, while his 27 career field goals were the most in Class A history.
Alvano made 16 field goals as a senior, the most in a season in the history of Nebraska high school football, regardless of class. He kicked five field goals, including a 50-yarder and a 45-yard game-winner as time expired in Westside’s state championship victory over Gretna. His five field goals were the most in any state playoff game in Nebraska history and tied for the most field goals in any high school game in state history. Alvano scored 118 points in his senior season, the most points by a kicker in state history. As a junior, he was 11-of-14 on field goals, including a pair of 49-yarders in the state semifinals. Alvano was named a second-team junior All-American by MaxPreps.
According to MaxPreps, Alvano was also 119-of-120 in his career on extra points. He scored 200 points in his two seasons as the Warriors’ kicker. He handled kickoff duties for Westside for three seasons, booting 141 touchbacks in 225 attempts, including 73 as a senior. Alvano was named to the Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska first team as both a junior and senior. He also earned a spot on the Lincoln Journal Star Super-State first team both seasons. Alvano also played soccer at Westside, which finished as the Class A state runner-up in his junior season.
Alvano was rated as a five-star prospect by Kohl’s Kicking, which ranked him as the nation's No. 5 kicker. He also had scholarship offers from Air Force, Army, Boston College and North Dakota State.
