Sam Shurtleff did not play in a game during the 2021 season.

2020 (Redshirt Freshman)
Shurtleff provided depth at outside linebacker but did not play in a game as a redshirt freshman.

2019 (Redshirt)
Shurtleff utilized his redshirt season in his first year at Nebraska after joining the program as a walk-on.

Before Nebraska (Oconee County HS)
Shurtleff joined the Nebraska program as a walk-on linebacker prospect from Oconee County High School in Watkinsville, Ga. Shurtleff helped the Warriors to a 6-5 record and a state playoff appearance in 2018. He made 30 tackles, including five tackles for loss and three sacks during his senior season. Shurtleff was also a strong defensive presence as a junior, recording 18 tackles and three sacks for nine yards in losses. 

Personal
Sam was born on June 17, 2001, and he is the son of Michael and Christine Shurtleff. He has not declared a major. Shurtleff has volunteered his time with Boo at the Zoo, the Canned Food Drive, a Day of Service, Husker Heroes, the Nebraska Football Road Race and local hospital visits.
