1985 (Senior)
Knox rebounded from a season-ending knee injury in 1984 to have another outstanding year in 1985. Knox was second on the team in tackles with 65, trailing only the 65 tackles of injured weak-side linebacker Marc Munford. In addition, Knox intercepted two passes, broke up four others and recovered two opponent fumbles. Knox shared the team tackle lead with Munford twice on the year, 12 vs. Oklahoma State for his season high, and five against Kansas. Knox closed his career 27-1 in Big Eight play, falling just one game short of becoming the first player in Big Eight history to letter four times on teams that never lost a league game.
1984 (Redshirted)
Knox missed the entire 1984 season with a knee injury sustained in the 1984 Spring Game.
1983 (Junior)
An All-Big Eight linebacker for the second-ranked Huskers, Knox led the team in tackles with 125 (64 unassisted) and intercepted more passes (four) than any other Husker linebacker over the previous 13 seasons. His four interceptions included a 27-yard touchdown return in a 44-6 Nebraska romp over defending national champion Penn State in the inaugural Kickoff Classic at East Rutherford, N.J., and a 45-yard, non-scoring return three games later against Syracuse. Knox led the team in tackles in nine of 12 regular season games and had 10 or more tackles in seven games. Knox was named Big Eight player-of-the-week for his career-high 17-tackle effort against Missouri in a 34-13 Nebraska win.

Knox was the only freshman to earn a varsity letter as he played the entire season with the Nebraska varsity.
At Douglas County HS
Knox was an all-state and All-American as a linebacker for Coach Jack Meehan at Douglas County High School in Castle Rock, where he also won two state championships as a heavyweight wrestler.
Personal
The son of Duane and Kay Knox, Mike was born Nov. 21, 1962, in Boulder, Colo., and has two brothers. In addition to his football success, Knox qualified for the 1983 NCAA Championships in wrestling as he filled for All-America heavyweight Gary Albright and finished third in the Big Eight Championships.
