2023 (Senior)
Anthony Grant played in 11 games this season with three starts as a senior. He led Nebraska's running backs and ranks second on the team with 104 carries, 413 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. His play helped Nebraska boast the No. 2 rushing offense in the Big Ten.
Grant had nine carries for 27 yards at Minnesota. Against Northern Illinois, Grant ran for 46 yards on seven carries, including an 11-yard touchdown. He earned his first start against Louisiana Tech and ran for 135 yards on 22 carries with one touchdown. With his big day against the Bulldogs, Grant became the 68th Husker to rush for 1,000 career yards. He was limited to 16 yards on six carries against No. 2 Michigan. Grant had 20 carries for 56 yards at Illinois, including a 1-yard touchdown. He gained 22 yards on six carries against Northwestern. Grant rushed for 18 yards on six carries against Purdue. He started at Michigan State and had nine carries for 35 yards. Grant had three carries for nine yards against Maryland. Grant carried 12 times for 45 yards at Wisconsin. Grant had four carries for four yards against Iowa, and he also had a one-yard catch.
Grant rushed for at least 100 yards in six of his 15 starts at Nebraska, and he ended his career ranked in a tie for 49th on the Huskers' all-time rushing list (1,328).
2022 (Junior)
Grant led NU with 218 carries - the most by a Husker since 2014 - while totaling 915 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns and an average of 76.3 rushing yards per game. Grant also caught 18 passes for 104 yards. He was recognized as an honorable-mention All-Big Ten selection.
Grant ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns in the opener against Northwestern, becoming the first Husker with 100 rushing yards in his career debut since 2018. Grant added a 46-yard rushing touchdown against the Wildcats. He had another 46-yard rushing touchdown the next week against North Dakota when he finished with 23 carries for a career-high 189 yards. He added two more rushing touchdowns against the Fighting Hawks. For his performance, he was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the first Husker to win that award since the 2018 season.
Grant posted his third consecutive 100-yard rushing game against Georgia Southern, finishing with 138 yards and one touchdown on 27 carries. With his effort against the Eagles, Grant became the first running back to have 100 rushing yards in each of his first three games as a Husker since Bobby Reynolds in 1950. Grant rushed 13 times for 36 yards against No. 6 Oklahoma. He added his fourth 100-yard rushing effort against Indiana, carrying a career-high 32 times for 136 yards.
Against the Hoosiers, Grant was the first Husker to have 30 carries in a game since 2017. He then had 19 carries for 47 yards at Rutgers. Against Purdue, Grant carried 11 times for 35 yards and one touchdown and caught two passes for eight yards. He then had 61 yards on 12 carries against No. 17 Illinois and led Nebraska with three receptions totaling 27 yards.
Against Minnesota, Grant ran for 115 yards on 21 carries. With his fifth 100-yard rushing effort of the season, Grant became the first Husker with five 100-yard rushing games in a season since Devine Ozigbo in 2018. Grant was limited to 22 rushing yards on 11 carries at No. 3 Michigan. He ran for 29 yards on 16 carries against Wisconsin. Grant ended his season with 14 carries and two receptions in the win at Iowa.
Before Nebraska (Buford HS/Florida State/New Mexico Military Institute)
Grant came to Nebraska as the top offensive player in the junior college ranks in addition to previous Power Five experience. Grant began his career at Florida State (2018-19) before playing two seasons at the New Mexico Military Institute (2020-21).
In his two seasons at NMMI, Grant rushed for 2,549 yards and 28 touchdowns, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. Grant averaged 127.5 rushing yards per game, and he posted 10 100-yard rushing efforts in his 20 games, including four 200-yard rushing games.
In 2021, Grant rushed for 1,730 yards and 18 touchdowns on 241 carries, leading the junior college ranks in rushing attempts, rushing yards, rushing yards per game (144.2) and rushing yards per carry (7.2). He was named the 2021 NJCAA Male Student-Athlete of the Year, in addition to being the Division I Offensive Player of the Year and an All-American. Grant helped NMMI to the 2021 national championship, rushing for 590 yards and six touchdowns on 60 carries in two playoff games, averaging 295.0 rushing yards per game and 9.8 yards per carry. In the semifinal against Northwest Mississippi CC, Grant ran 26 times for 398 yards and five touchdowns.
In his first season at New Mexico Military Institute in 2020, Grant ran for 819 yards and 10 touchdowns in eight games, averaging 7.1 yards per carry and 102.4 yards per game. He had a season-high 268 rushing yards and four touchdowns against Navarro College.
Grant began his career at Florida State. He played in every game as a true freshman in 2018, serving as the Seminoles’ primary kick returner. Grant led FSU with 11 kickoff returns for 247 yards. He also had five carries and made nine tackles on special teams. Grant redshirted in his second season at Florida State in 2019.
Previously, Grant starred at Buford High School in Georgia, the same alma mater as fellow Husker running back Gabe Ervin Jr. At Buford, Grant was an all-state selection and the region player of the year as a senior.
Grant was regarded as the No. 1 running back recruit in the junior college ranks and among the top 20 overall junior college recruits by 247Sports. Rivals regarded him as a four-star junior college recruit.
Personal
Anthony was born on Feb. 27, 1999, and is the son of Anthony Grant and the late Wytevia Frazier. He is majoring in child, youth and family studies. Grant has volunteered his time with the Nebraska Football Road Race, Legacy Retirement home, local hospital and elementary school outreach visits and the Huskers’ Day of Service.
