Huskers Set Sights on Hoosiers

Lincoln - Coach Mike Riley and members of the No. 9 Nebraska football team met with members of the media Monday at Memorial Stadium to discuss the Huskers' upcoming road test at Indiana on Saturday.

Kick-off between the Huskers (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) and the Hoosiers (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten) is set for Saturday at 2:30 p.m., with a live telecast on ABC in the Big Ten region and ESPN2 outside the Big Ten region.

The Huskers enjoyed a bye week Oct. 8, but had a solid week of preparations leading up to the weekend off. Indiana battled No. 2 Ohio State for three quarters, before finally succumbing to the Buckeyes, 38-17, in Columbus.

In their last home game at Indiana's Memorial Stadium, the Hoosiers knocked off a top-25 Michigan State squad, 24-21 in overtime, on Oct. 1. Indiana is 2-0 at home this season, including a 30-20 win over Ball State. Overall, Indiana has won three straight Big Ten games at home, including a win over in-state rival Purdue last season.

Saturday's game between Nebraska and Indiana will mark the first meeting between the schools as Big Ten Conference opponents. Indiana leads the all-time series with Nebraska, 9-7-3, but the two teams have not faced each other since 1978.

Although Indiana owns an all-time edge in the series, Nebraska has won the last four meetings, as the Huskers went 4-0 while facing the Hoosiers four consecutive seasons from 1975 to 1978. In fact, the Huskers won those four meetings by a combined score of 190-43.

Nebraska and Indiana faced each other in 12 consecutive seasons from 1936 to 1947, with Indiana producing a 7-3-2 edge in an extremely competitive series. The teams tied for the third time in 13 games in a meeting at Nebraska's Memorial Stadium in 1950, before the Huskers suffered defeats in 1956 and 1959 in Lincoln.
