Nebraska Prepares for Potent Jayhawks

Lincoln--- The Nebraska football team practiced in half pads for two hours Tuesday at the Hawks Championship Center.  The Huskers are preparing to face Kansas on Saturday in Lawrence. Offensive Coordinator Shawn Watson discussed the focus of the team heading into another Big 12 North battle.

"Just like every week, get better," Watson said. "We're still working with young guys, we just have to keep working."

Watson spoke briefly on the status of receivers Menelik Holt and Curenski Gilleylan, who have both been working on the scout team in recent weeks.

"I think they have earned their way back in for some time," Watson said. "We'll just give them a look and see what the week brings. They did a great job the last couple of weeks on the scout field. They've done a number of things right, we're going to give them an opportunity. We're always fair with our guys."

Watson also commented on the quarterback situation where Zac Lee and Cody Green are continually battling for the job as starter. Watson said that the decision will go to whichever player steps up the most in practice.

"It's something that we need to get solidified," he said. "We've got two young players who are going through growing pains. We just have to keep coaching, that's my job and we'll get there. They're good players and good people, they work hard."

Kansas displays a potent scoring offense, one that could turn the game into a scoring contest between the two teams. Watson said that they will remain unified as a team in the scheme and preparation to face the Jayhawks.

"We'll be smart with how we orchestrate," he said. "We do everything together as a team. We'll predicate (play-calling) on how the game is played."

The Huskers will return to the practice field on Wednesday afternoon. The game Saturday is set to kick off at 2:36 p.m. from KU's Memorial Stadium, with ABC providing regional television coverage of the contest.
