Huskers Set to Start Fall Season in Virginia

The Nebraska men's tennis team will kick off its fall season as they are set to participate in the Virginia Fall Classic in Charlottesville, Va., on Friday, Sept. 11.  The tournament concludes on Sunday, Sept. 13.

The Huskers will be sending a total of eight competitors to the tournament including two true freshmen. Returning letterwinners Daivd Bendheim, Taylor Boney, Benedikt Lindheim, Calin Paar, Francois Van Impe and former Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Christopher Aumueller will all participate in the tournament. Playing in Husker uniforms for the first time will be freshmen Eric Sock and Jamie Trenite. Sock will look to make a splash in the Husker lineup after his runner-up finish in the Kansas state singles tournament as a senior in high school. Trenite will begin his Husker career after being rated as one of the top amateur players in the Netherlands.

Play is set to begin on Friday, Sept. 11, at 8 a.m. Check back to Huskers.com for results throughout the weekend.

Two Huskers Ranked in Preseason Poll
The Huskers will begin their fall season with two nationally ranked players for the first time in program history after the ITA released its preseason rankings on Sept., 3. Sophomore Christopher Aumueller will begin the season ranked at No. 59 while senior David Bendheim checked in at No. 75.

Last Year at the Virginia Fall Classic
The Huskers finished off a productive tournament by sending one player to the final day of competition last season at the Virginia Fall Classic.

Francois Van Impe reached the finals of the back draw in the A-2 singles bracket after losing his first match of the tournament to Nicolas Delgado of Virginia Tech.  Van Impe was defeated by Grega Teraz (East Tennesse State) 6-4, 7-5 in the finals.

Along with Van Impe, several other Huskers experienced success on the weekend.  Calin Paar, who came into the tournament ranked No. 123 in the nation, reached the semifinals of the A-2 singles bracket by defeating Maksin Levanovich (Stetson) and Alex Das Izquierdo (Eastern Kentucky) before falling to Michael Shabaz of host Virginia in the semifinals.  Junior David Bendheim, who was the only Husker to compete in the A-1 singles bracket, lost in the quarterfinals of the back draw to Keziel Juneau (William & Mary) 6-3, 4-6, 5-10.

In the B singles bracket, Hendrik Stahmer reached the quarterfinals of the back draw and finished with a 1-2 record.  True freshman Andrew Freeman collected his first collegiate victory over William Lang (William & Mary) in the first round of the C singles back draw 3-6, 7-5, 10-5
