Huskers Continue Spring Game Preparations

Lincoln ?Light rain and cold temperatures forced the Nebraska football team inside the Hawks Championship Center on Monday, but the Huskers continued to show intensity during a 2 ? hour practice. Defensive Coordinator Carl Pelini said the team had a good practice, as just two sessions remain before Saturday’s Red-White Spring Game.

Today was real physical,” Pelini said. “We have had a physical spring. These guys are sore right now and tired and it is full-go physical football every day. They battled through that and practiced hard today.”

Pelini said several positions on the defensive side of the ball should have depth for the Huskers this fall, including defensive tackle.

“Jared [Crick] has a solid handle on the number one spot, but with Baker [Steinkuhler] and Terrence [Moore] we are going to have a rotation there,” he said. “In the end, they are probably all going to play equal snaps. They are all progressing very well.”

Pelini also identified the cornerbacks as an up-and-coming position for Nebraska.

“Prince [Amukamara] has had a great spring and Anthony [West] has really stepped up,” he said. “Our young guys like Alfonzo [Dennard] and Anthony [Blue] have played well. Every day it seems like a different one is stepping up and makings plays for us. That is what we need. We need a lot of depth there. It makes you better at the nickel position and everywhere else.”
