After three weeks from regular season competition, the Nebraska bowling team continues preparations for the 2009 NCAA Championship in Detroit, Mich., on April 9-11 at Super Bowl Lanes.
“We had two strong weeks of really intense practice,” Nebraska Coach Bill Straub said. “We have an awful lot of determination going into nationals. I can’t predict the outcome, but the team is certainly ready.”
Eight teams compose the championship field, including Nebraska, Arkansas State, Central Missouri, Delaware State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Vanderbilt, New Jersey City and the 2008 National Champions Maryland-Eastern Shore.
Competition will start on Thursday with the qualifying rounds, where each team bowls four five-person team games and five four-game Baker matches. Total pinfall during the qualifying round will determine each team’s seed in bracket play. Friday’s competition will include four rounds of Baker-style games to determine the final two teams to compete in the championship on Saturday.
The Huskers will have one more day of practice on Monday, April 6, at the East Campus Bowling Lanes before leaving for Detroit on Tuesday, April 7.
