The Husker football team strapped on the shoulder pads for the first time this fall Wednesday afternoon for a 2 1/2 hour practice inside the HawksChampionshipCenter.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

Nebraska’s third practice of the fall was spent indoors after rainfall earlier in the day drenched the Lincoln area, forcing the Huskers inside for the second consecutive practice. Offensive coordinator Sean Watson addressed the media following the workout.

“It was what you expect the first time in shoulder pads,” Watson said. “It got a little spirited at times and there were a lot of good collisions.”

The Huskers used their time inside the Hawks to focus on more installation and conditioning, as has been the trend over the last three days. The team fought through an intense set of 60-yard sprints to conclude the third day of fall camp.

“We’re in great shape,” Watson said. “We’re trying to get our base installation done and teach the newcomers how we do things. With the older guys we’re just trying to reinforce and see where they’re at. Then (we’ll) put our foundation down and build from there.”

The Huskers will don shoulder pads and helmets again on Thursday for a 3 p.m. workout, which will be held outside on the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice fields if weather permits.
