Two Husker Basketball Players Among NU Graduates

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln ? Guard Marcus Perry and forward Choul Laam were among the 53 Husker student-athletes who participated in graduation ceremonies on Saturday, May 5, on the main floor of the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Perry, a two-year letterman for the Huskers, and Laam, a walk-on in 2006-07, continued the Husker men's basketball program's recent academic success. Nebraska has now had at least two men's basketball players graduate during Spring commencement ceremonies for four straight years, including four who walked last May. In the classroom, Nebraska is second in the conference in academic All-Big 12 first-team selections since the formation of the Big 12 Conference in 1996.

Perry came to the Huskers after earning junior college All-America honors at Southern Union State (Ala.) CC. He averaged 9.5 points per game as a senior in 2006-07 and was among the conference leaders with 67 3-pointers while hitting 41.1 percent from beyond the arc. He finished his career ranked on the NU single-season and career top-10 charts for 3-point percentage and he was second all-time in 3-pointers by a Husker senior. The Anniston, Ala., native graduated with a degree in communication studies.

Laam tried out for the team at the beginning of the season and was a valuable member of the scout squad. He dressed for several home games and made five appearances that spanned nine minutes. He scored two points on a pair of free throws and added one rebound. Laam, who graduated from Lincoln High School and Central Community College before attending UNL, is a political science/international studies major.

The 53 Husker graduates this May represent all 23 of Nebraska’s varsity sports and nearly 30 different majors. The graduating class also includes nine student-athletes who combined for 16 All-America awards.
