Three NU Wrestlers Graduate

Lincoln - Former Nebraska wrestlers Chad Johnson, Matt Murray and Dominick Moyer received their degrees during commencement ceremonies held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday, May 5.

Johnson, a native of Bloomfield, Colo., received his degree as an English major. Johnson wrestled in a backup role for NU at 157 and 165 pounds until completing his eligibility in the 2005-06 season.

A three-time NCAA qualifier, Moyer graduated as a nutrition, fitness and health promotion major. A three-year starter, Moyer, an Oskaloosa, Iowa, native, finished his career at the 2007 NCAA Championships in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Murray earned his degree in mathematics after a decorated athletic and academic career at Nebraska. Murray was the national runner-up at 141 pounds in 2004 and also qualified for nationals in his final year of 2005. The Colby, Kan., native was also a two-time academic All-American.

The three wrestlers were part of a 53-member graduating class that consisted of student-athletes from 20 U.S. states and five foreign countries, including Austria, Canada, Colombia, Poland and Serbia. All 23 of Nebraska’s varsity sports were represented by at least one student-athlete in the graduating class, while the Huskers graduated with nearly 30 different majors in their fields of study. While the class is strikingly diverse, 16 native Nebraskans made up nearly a third of the class.
