NU Women?s Tennis Honors Two Graduating Seniors

Lincoln, Neb.?The Nebraska women’s tennis team has had much success on and off the court this year.  Not only has Nebraska qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history, but it also boasts two graduating seniors, Katie Garcia and Stacey Tomkiewicz.

 

Garcia is the first three-time captain in school history.  She has posted 47 career doubles wins which ties Lisa Hart for third all-time on NU’s career list, and Garcia was named All-Big 12 in doubles this season. Off the court, she was named first-team Academic All-Big 12 team as a senior and second-team Academic All-Big 12 as a junior.  The Lincoln native is receiving a degree in industrial engineering.

 

Tomkiewicz was a member of the women’s tennis team from 1999 to 2003.  Tomkiewicz posted 41 doubles victories during her career with the Huskers.  In 1999, Tomkiewicz recorded a career- high 14 doubles wins, including a 6-4 record in conference.  The Ojai, Calif., product is receiving a degree in nutritional science and dietetics.
