The Nebraska men's golf team will open its 2005-06 season at home in the Fairway Club Invitational and a week later will play at one of the historic golf courses in the United States.
Coach Bill Spangler's team will open the 2005 fall slate with its own Fairway Club Invitational at Firethorn Golf Club on Monday, Sept. 12 and Tuesday, Sept. 13. The field for the Fairway Club Invitational will be announced in the coming months.
A week later, the Huskers will travel to Toledo, Ohio to take part in the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational at the historic Inverness Club on Sept. 19 and 20. The Inverness Club is ranked among the Top 100 courses in the United States and has played host to four U.S. Opens, most recently in 1999. The 1986 and 1993 PGA Championships were also contested at Inverness Club.
Nebraska will face a top-flight field at the Inverness Intercollegiate. In addition to Nebraska and the host school Toledo, the field also includes Central Florida, Oklahoma State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Texas, TCU, Michigan State, USC, Illinois, Kent State, Duke and BYU.
The Huskers will complete the rest of their fall schedule later this spring. Nebraska opens its spring schedule on Feb. 7-8 at the Rice Intercollegiate in Houston, Texas.
