Huskers Complete Preparations for Spring Game

Lincoln? The Husker football team was welcomed by unseasonably warm conditions on Friday, as Nebraska went through its final spring practice on the Memorial Stadium FieldTurf. The Huskers were in shorts and helmets for the workout which lasted two hours.

Coach Bill Callahan’s squad will wrap up its 2004 spring session on Saturday with the annual Red-White Spring Game set for a 12:30 p.m. kickoff at Memorial Stadium. The top units will play for the red team, with white squad comprised of reserve players.

A large crowd is expected for Saturday’s game, in addition to a full day of events in and around Memorial Stadium. The Husker Nation Pavilion will be open three hours before kickoff, but will be located on Stadium Drive, on the west side of Memorial Stadium. A large contingent of former Huskers is also expected to attend the game.

The large crowd and activities surrounding the Saturday’s Red-White contest make for a “game-like” atmosphere, according to Husker defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove.

“It is a lot of fun,” Cosgrove said. “It is great to see how excited everyone is about football and coming out to see the spring game. I’ve never been a part of a spring game with more than 20,000 fans.”

Nebraska drew a record 60,498 fans for the 1998 spring game, which included a Friday evening dedication of Tom Osborne Field. The Huskers drew 48,659 fans for the 1996 contest, following back-to-back national championships.
