Wangler, Ogee lead Huskers to Two Wins at Capital Classic

Sacramento, Calif. - The fifth-ranked Nebraska softball team tallied 24 hits, including three home runs and three triples, in two games en route to defeating Long Island, 8-3, and Utah State, 8-0, Thursday in the first day of action at the Capital Classic. The Huskers tied their season best with 12 hits in both games as they improved to 19-5 overall and lengthened their streak of consecutive wins to 13.

Junior left fielder Lisa Wangler led the barrage, going 6-for-7 with a double and triple. Junior centerfielder Kim Ogee was also impressive at the plate, going 4-for-7 with a home run for NU, which recorded its first run-rule victory of the season against the Aggies.

Leigh Ann Walker (8-2) was the winning pitcher for Nebraska, allowing three earned runs on three hits while striking out 10 in 7.0 innings. Peaches James (11-3) picked up the win over Utah State, tossing a one-hit shutout and striking out six Aggies.

Against Long Island (4-10), Ogee opened the bottom of the first with a leadoff home run, her fourth of the season, to give the Huskers their first run of the game. After Wangler was called out for leaving early on a steal attempt, Trimboli laced a one-out double to center and advanced to third when Amber Burgess grounded out to third.
