Des Moines, Iowa -- Amy Stephens, who served the past season as an assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Nebraska, was named the new head women's basketball coach at Drake University at a press conference Monday in the Morrison Room of the Drake Knapp Center.
"I am extremely excited about this opportunity," Stephens said. "Drake is a special place with its high academic standards and great tradition of women's basketball. In getting to know the leadership at Drake, I have been very impressed by the commitment of President Maxwell and Athletic Director Dave Blank. I am anxious to begin work."
Nebraska head coach Connie Yori said she would miss Stephens on the NU coaching staff, but was happy for Stephens and her ascension as a Division I head coach.
"When Coach Stephens joined my staff at Nebraska last year, I know that she was planning on staying longer than one year, but this opportunity to be the head coach at Drake in a league like the Missouri Valley Conference was just too good of an opportunity for her to pass up," Yori said.
