NU Women in 2nd, Men in 4th Through First Day of Big 12s

Lincoln, Neb. -- With the help of a one-two finish in the 20-pound weight throw on Friday, the Nebraska women's track and field team sits in second place through the first day of competition at the Big 12 Indoor Championships at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Husker men finished the first day of competition in fourth before a crowd of 2,198.

"It was a good day for us," Nebraska Head Coach Gary Pepin said. "I thought we qualified well."

Through six events on the women's side, Kansas State leads with 45 points, followed by Nebraska's 40.5 points. The Huskers qualified a total of nine spots in Saturday's running event finals, while Texas qualified 15.

On the men's side, Colorado leads with 31 points through four events, followed by Kansas (20), Texas (19) and Nebraska (14). Both Nebraska and Baylor qualified 12 spots in Saturday's running event finals, while Texas qualified 10.

Nebraska senior All-American thrower Melissa Price pulled out of her redshirt season to place first for the Huskers in the 20-pound weight throw with a personal-best and NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 66-8
