Flower Mound, Texas - The Nebraska men's golf team carded rounds of 293 and 288 Monday to end the first day of the North Texas-hosted Mean Green Invitational in ninth place.

With a 16-under-par score of 560, Arkansas-Little Rock holds a three-stroke lead for the tournament lead. Its own Billy Zihala used a second-round 69 to grab hold of the individual lead heading into the final round.

Junior J.J. Sullivan led the Husker squad with a score of even-par 144 and is tied for 25th upon completion of the first day. Junior Chris Hartwig shot a 145 (+1) to grab a share of 29th place. Seniors Seth Porter and Kevin Bryson each carded a 146 and are in a 36th-place tie. Senior Jim Troy recorded a 154 and is currently in 73rd place.

Following a seventh-place finish in the Fairway Club Invitational last week, head coach Bill Spangler is pleased with the improved play of his squad.
