Lincoln -- The sixth-ranked Nebraska softball team continues a five-game road swing when it travels to Waco, Texas, to face Baylor (25-16 overall and 1-5 in the Big 12 Conference) at 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. This weekend provides NU with an opportunity to push its Big 12 record above .500. The Huskers (26-9 overall and 3-4 in the Big 12) have defeated 10 ranked teams this season, including four ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll top 10. However, NU got off to a rocky start in Big 12 Conference play, dropping two games at Texas A&M and splitting with Oklahoma and Texas.
After going 6-5 in an 11-day stretch from March 20 to March 31, Nebraska appears to be building momentum again. NU is coming off two road wins this week, as it defeated Creighton, 5-2 in Omaha, and Iowa State, 3-0 in Ames. The Huskers have collected 17 hits in their last two games, batting .309. Four NU players have hit .400 or better in their last two games, including sophomore second baseman Anne Steffan (.667), junior outfielder/first baseman Nicole Trimboli (.571), junior pitcher Peaches James (.429)and sophomore first baseman Sheena Lawrick (.400).
The Nebraska pitching staff has thrown 12 straight scoreless innings, as James tossed a five-hit shutout against the Cyclones to improve to 13-7 on the season.
Following their trip to Waco, the Huskers will close the road swing at Creighton April 8. NU
