The fourth-ranked Nebraska softball team used a seven-run fifth inning Sunday to defeat No. 20 South Carolina, 9-1 in a five-inning run-rule victory. With the win, Nebraska improved to 9-1 overall and finished the 2003 UNLV Desert Classic with a 4-1 mark.
Freshman righthander Summer Tobias (4-0) picked up the win, allowing one run on three hits while striking out five Gamecocks in five innings of work. Tobias faced 17 batters, just two over the minimum.
