On what NU gained from Saturday’s win against Troy
“Troy was a formidable opponent. They played well against FloridaState and Georgia Tech, and we did a lot of good things against them. You take a positive from every game. We know we have to continue to get better. We know we are going to see a lot better teams than we saw last week, and that starts this week.”
On challenges presented by KU’s defense
“They are very sound structurally. They don’t have the same experience in their front seven that they had last year, but the scheme is the same. They play it very well and don’t make mistakes. They are very active up front with their defensive tackles. Their linebackers are smart. It’s a challenge. We are really going to have to be on top of our game and execute and focus like we were last week, and we’re going to have to be physical and come off the ball. This is a physical defense, and to be able to run the ball we’re going to have to be the same.”
On the focus of Tuesday’s practice
“Today we introduced some new plays?base runs and base blitz. It was a normal Tuesday practice. Tomorrow will be more third-down oriented, but today was base run and pass.”
